A typical 05/27/2010

My boss insists on introductory meeting with each new staff person.  The first time I scheduled one of these I put it down for an hour.  She scoffed, saying she didn't need to spend that much time on it.  Since then, I only schedule these types of meeting for :30.

She had two of these meeting yesterday; StafferA at 11 and StafferB at 11:30.  She was then supposed to take a call from California at noon and leave by 12:45 to meet someone for lunch at 1:00.  Here's what actually happened...

My boss walks in at 11:25 and says she's ready for StafferA.  I point out the time and mention StafferB.  Boss seems shocked that I only scheduled them for 30 minutes each, then in the next breath claims she really only needs 15 minutes.  I send in StafferA and tell StafferB I'll come get her in 20.  Boss keeps StafferA until noon.  She tells me her noon call will be quick and she'll meet with StafferB from 12:15 to 12:45, then head to her lunch on time. I update StafferB.

Well, the noon call didn't come in until 12:15.  I update StafferB again.  Then I get a call from her 1:00 lunch asking to delay until 1:30.  So helpful, I think.  At 12:25 I have to leave so I give my boss a note telling her about the later lunch.  On my way out, I update StafferB one last time, instructing her to knock on the boss's door at 12:30 and stick her head in the door to see if she gets a wave in or a wave off.

When I return from lunch I discover that StafferB only got 5 minutes of hallway conversation with Boss as she was running out the door ...late to her 1:30 lunch.  I wish I could say I was surprised.
